Posted November 24, 2021

In the world of industrial material handling, forklifts are a must – but it can be difficult to know which to use in different situations. The appropriate forklift for a specific job is determined by the application, load capacity and type, as well as your ultimate destination, so choosing the right kind of forklift is imperative. Unsure of what you need? Here are a few of the different types of forklifts that can help improve your business.

Internal Combustion Forklift

One of the most popular types of forklifts is the internal combustion (IC) forklift, which can come with pneumatic or cushion tires depending on your application. The IC pneumatic tire forklift is great for heavy-duty applications. This forklift type has air-filled tires and can range from 3,000 to 33,000 lbs. lift capacity. The IC cushion tire forklift has solid rubber tires and is a multi-purpose forklift that has a lift capacity of 3,000-15,500 lbs. These types of forklifts are best for outdoor settings.

Electric Forklifts

The Electric Forklift is also a very popular type of forklift that helps you maintain your environmental footprint while meeting the most demanding applications. The Electric Forklift also comes with a pneumatic or cushion tire and can be purchased in a 3 or 4-wheel model, depending on your needs. These forklifts carry a lift capacity from 2,500 to 33,000 lbs. Electric forklifts are great for indoor or warehouse settings as they have zero emissions.

Reach Forklifts and Turret Trucks

When it comes to space and size, reach forklifts have some of the largest types of forklifts on the market. Reach trucks are very maneuverable and able to turn tight corners in crowded spaces. These forklifts are compact and can help you reach high stored products easily.

Turret trucks are also suitable for very narrow aisles. The carriage on turret trucks can rotate 180° to reach items anywhere within warehouse storage aisles. The forks on this lift can also be rotated without moving the truck itself, making it perfect for narrow warehouse aisles.

Electric Pallet Jacks

For loads that don’t require lifting at higher levels, electric pallet jacks are perfect. Some models allow operators to ride on the front. These types of pallet jacks are perfect for moving items at ground level or within warehouses with low shelving.

For every material-handling situation, there is the perfect forklift to help you get the job done. If you’re not sure which type of forklift would be the best choice for you, give us a call to consult with a forklift specialist.
